Cleanthi Peters sued Universal Studios in 2000 for damages amounting to $15,000 (R128200) after visiting their Halloween Horror Nights haunted house for suffering extreme fear, mental anguish, and emotional distress. She claimed the house was too scary.
4. American Airlines Sued for not Having Enough Legroom
According to American Airlines, spacious legroom means space for your legs, in which case they’re not falsely advertising. A couple sued the airline in 2004 for $100,000 (R854,700) because they did not get the legroom on their trip to Paris that the airline promised. The airline advertised that the legroom would be generous. One of the victims of said outrageous deception suffered back and leg pain on the flight. This caused him to trip and break his nose at the entrance to the Basilica of St. Paul’s in Rome a couple of days later.
3. Hot Lap Dance Club Sued for Swinging Heels
A Mr Stephen Chang sued Hot Lap Dance Club near Madison Square Garden after he “sustained serious injuries” there. The married 30-something sued the club in 2008 because a dancer swung around, as they often do, with mammoth heels. They happened to get him in the eye. The club and the dancer, according to Chang, were guilty of negligence.
2. Batman Sued for using the name Batman
We say Batman. You think the oil-producing city in south eastern Turkey, right? Huseyin Kalkan, mayor of the pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party, sued Christopher Nolan and Warner Bros for royalties when the protagonist of The Dark Knight film was discovered to bear the same name as his city: Batman. Apparently, citizens of the city had been unaware of the DC comic which began in 1939, and were much confused when their hometown went head-to-head against Heath Ledger.
1. Budweiser Sued for Deceptive Fantasies
Richard Overton sued brewery Anheueser-Busch for their outrageously misleading Budweiser commercial. According to the campaign, drinking Budweiser or even Budlight would see buxom beauties in tropical attire come to life. With such a goal in mind, Overton repeatedly purchased the beer. He suffered emotional distress, mental injury, and financial loss when all his hopes were dashed. He sued the company for $10,000 (R85,470) in 1991, yet it was dismissed.
