The Hyundai Engineering and Construction Co was founded in 1947 by Chung Ju-Yung, and the Hyundai Motor Co. was establish in 1967.

The very first model produced was the Cortina which was released in collaboration with the Ford Motor Co in 1968.

Former manager of Austin Morris, George Turnbull, was recruited by Hyundai Motor Co. in 1974, who in turn hired top engineers, and in 1975 the Pony, which was the very first Korean car, was released; exports soon followed.

In 1985 Hyundai built its one millionth motor vehicle, and in 1998 Hyundai’s main focus was on improving its image as a first-class motor vehicle brand.

Chung Mong Koo took over the reins from his father, Chung Ju-Yung in 1999. Hyundai’s parent Co. Hyundai Motor Group invested in the superiority, strategy, manufacturing and long-term exploration of its cars, adding a 10 year warranty to vehicles sold in the US, thus launching an extremely forceful marketing campaign.

Unsurprisingly, Hyundai is considered as one of the top one hundred most respected brands in the world.

Kim Dong-jin replaced Chung Mong Koo as head of Hyundai after an investigation into his dealings by the Korean Government.
